Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS)

Ask us about the Drugs Payment Scheme. If you are ineligible for the Medical Card then you can still make savings on your approved prescribed drugs and medicines if you or your family are paying more than €144 (increased from €132 on  the 1st January 2013 and remaining unchanged for 2014) per month for these drugs. If you have a GP Visit Card you should also apply for a Drugs Payment Scheme Card.

Benefits of a DPS Card

The benefit of the DPS scheme is that you or your family will pay a maximum of €144 per calendar month for your approved prescribed medicines. This does not mean that you must pay €144 every month. We will keep a running total of the amount that you or your family pay for prescriptions during a calendar month and if you or your family pass the €144 limit the remaining prescribed medicines are free. In order to avail of the DPS scheme you must remain with the same pharmacy for the month.

How To Obtain a DPS Card

To obtain a Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) Card you must be resident in Ireland and have a PPS number. There is NO means test for the Drugs Payment Scheme. You will receive a DPS card containing your unique number that your pharmacy adds to your records.
